Established in 1960 in East New Brunswick, and named after it's
first principal, Murray A. Chittick Elementary School, bears
the Chittick name.
Points of Interest:
"Hands Across Chittick" is one of a variety of programs
in this multicultural school to celebrate diversity. While recognizing
the many achievements of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on his
birthday, students joined together and held hands to symbolize
efforts to make friendships "that are not based on the
color of the skin, but by the content of the character."
During the school-wide celebration, students in the Broadcast
Club (Chittick News Network) highlighted the accomplishments
of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and demonstrated on-line sites
for classrooms to visit. In addition, students recited portions
of the "I Have a Dream" speech, recorded songs that
foster freedom in America and collectively sang as whole group
while uniting "Hands Across Chittick."
Chittick School is focused on prioritizing cultural diversity.
Thirty-one native languages are spoken, and ongoing multicultural
programs are continually being developed. Programs such as
"Hands Across Chittick" give both the students and
staff the opportunities to learn to get along with others,
and value and respect each other as everyone takes their journey
through life
